The church is a community of believers in the Lord, Jesus Christ. It represents a smaller version of the larger society to which it is called to mirror the love of God as demonstrated in the sacrifice of Jesus.
The church is also called to serve humanity through the love of God that it has received. And it is to share this with other members.
There are so many youths in the church with good jobs and those without good jobs. The church therefore plays a vital role in employability of the youth in general.
The church also consists of both the believers and the unbelievers. And some Christian leaders today only see the church as a place to worship and render services to the Almighty God. Due to this limited view, unemployment still lurks in the church.
Here are 6 reasons why the church still has youths without jobs and the possible ways to solve this:
The church has failed today in bringing their members to the knowledge of the truth. There are Christian bodies that still preach fallacy and thus, have failed to inform their members about the real process of making it bigger in life.
The Bible makes us to understand that, “you shall know the truth and truth shall set you free” John 8:32. Therefore Church leaders are to make sure that their members are taught based on the knowledge of the truth.
2. Laziness on the part of the youth
There are those lazy people who don’t want to work but yet want something bigger and greater. They just go to church, hear the Word and fail to apply it in their lives. This has become the norm.
If the church is able to identify the youth who are lazy and help them recognize the importance of work, they can develop their skills and help them achieve greatness.
3. Lack of motivation
The bedrock of success is motivation. According to Merriam Webster dictionary,
Motivation is the condition of being eager to act or work.
The youth need motivation. And the church needs to encourage the youth by motivating them to start something small and grow.
There is a saying that early preparation warrants greater success; neither is gold dug in a day. Therefore, to be great in life, we need to start preparing early enough. We need to continue digging to get to that desired level of success.
It is therefore paramount for the Church to motivate all their members to work.
4. Lack of finance
For those with ideas, what they need is financial assistance. And some Christian bodies are still yet to tap into the area of Investments for their members who have great business ideas.
If the Church can single out the youths with great business ideas and then finance them, in the long run, these people can become employers of labour as well as be of service to the church.
5. Zero skill empowerment
How many Churches today empower their youth by creating skill acquisition programs for them?
There is need for the church to set up skill acquisition programs for the youth. This will add to their proficiency and therefore make them employable to the society.
6. Inadequate mentoring and coaching
According to Air National guide USA,
A mentor is a trusted counselor or guide. Normally a senior person to the associate. A mentor is a counselor, coach, motivator, and a role model. A mentor is a person who has sincere desire to enhance the success of others.
The average youth need mentors for guidance and direction in whatever career path they want to follow. A good mentoring and coaching program will definitely produce great ideas and generate professionals for the society at large.
The Bible encourages Christians to work hard and not to be slothful in their businesses. Thus, there is the need to be diligent and conscientious in one’s chosen field of endeavour (Prov. 10: 4; 22: 29; Rom. 12: 11; I Thess. 4: 11).
On this note, the church is vital in modeling a complete pattern of entrepreneurial skill acquisition. This is because the socio-economic challenges facing the Nigerian youth and indeed Nigeria as a nation are growing. There is therefore a need for the Church to actively step in and play its role.
